Afghan officials travels to Islamabad to start peace talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD: An Afghan delegation consisting of the representatives of the Afghan government has arrived Islamabad to start peace talks with the Taliban.

Sources told that Afghan Taliban are going to have peace dialogues with Afghan government with the intention of ending the 13-year insurgency in the neighbouring country. Pakistan is acting as facilitator to ensure the peaceful conduct of talks between both the sides.

The delegation is being led by deputy foreign minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai. No further details has been given about the subjects to be discussed during the peace talks.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s official account tweeted “A delegation from the High Peace Council of Afghanistan has traveled to Pakistan for negotiations with the Taliban.”

This announcement of peace negotiations with the Taliban is also confirmed by Ghani’s deputy spokesman Syed Zafar Hashemi.
